Raf is one of the two males we managed to get from kennel Cuchulann of Dessie Mackine, whose kennel is registered under JRTCGB - an original club, where the breed was created. The club however stands outside of the FCI, which is the highest organisation for dog breeders in the Czech Republic. This is also the reason why Raf is in "FCI register". Dessie is breeding for many years and uses his dogs in daily hunting practice. I am very honoured to get one of his dogs with help of Fly's breeder Bibiana Košáriova.
According to FCI Raf is a smaller male (FCI standard says the ideal height is 36cm +/- 2cm). If we looked at his height from the original standard of JRTCGB, Raf's height would be at the top limit. If you work with a dog in earth, his chest circuit should not be bigger than 45 cm. In many cases is you add 10cm to a height of a dog you will get a chest circuit. Of course you can find exceptions, but in many cases the "rule" works very well. That is why 35cm of height is the limit for me. I do not say that bigger dogs can not fit into a burrow, but it will cost them more energy and eventually lead to unnecessary injuries.
Raf is very lively and full of temperament, friendly towards human and dogs a great cuddler at home. He loves to come with many different monkey business. During huts he is in contact with us from time to time, he gives cry when seeing an animal, keeps distance from the wild pigs and does not go into unnecessary conflict, also during the earth work.
Raf comes from american and british working lines, that are nearly non existent in the FCI. His sire Cuchulann Soda is very successful hunting dog and show dog as well. From his mothers site we can find Lost Acres Perfect Ending, winner of USA Nationals, as a grandmother.
